Painting on Wood

Artist Georgie Demetriou was born in England to a British mother and Cypriot father. She moved to Larnaca many years ago and lives there still.

Georgie first discovered her artistic flare working with fimo - clay and making jewelry and beads. She sold her jewelry on Phinikoudes. Georgie made and sold her jewelry where ever she went. She traveled to Mexico twice, where she back-packed around for two months. Mexico became a source of inspiration for Georgie and this is apparent in her use of colours in her work.

Georgie also traveled to Italy and other parts of Europe, all the while collecting stones and ideas from countries she visited. Georgie also managed to set up a stall in Camden market and sold her jewelry there.

After years of making jewelry Georgie began to experiment using acrylics on wood. First she would paint on planks of wood, then sand them down to give her paintings that worn effect. Even though she hasn't been painting for very long Georgie hopes to one day look back on a whole collection of her work. Her creations have a childlike and playful edge to them, but why not decide for yourself.

Georgie's work is now on display and for sale in her own shop in Larnaca.
