The Nutcracker Ballet

 

The Nutcracker ballet was originally taken from the book "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King" by E.T.A. Hoffman. In 1891 choreographer Marius Petipa convinced Tchaikovsky to make the music for the ballet.

 

Thus The Nutcracker ballet was first performed at the Mariinsky Theatre in Russia in 1892.
 

Since then the Ballet has danced its way through Europe and across America, leaving audiences amazed.

 

Story is of a little girl who dreams that the Nutcracker doll given to her by her grandfather turns into a prince, but she remains a child. The role of the ballerina belongs to the Sugar Plum Fairy who gets the prince.

 

Cyprus audience's will have the opportunity to see the St. Petersburg Youth Ballet perform the Nutcracker. The St. Petersburg Youth Ballet was founded in 1992 with I. Safanova and A. Nikiforv, art director and producer respectively.

 

"The Nutcracker" will be performed on the 20th and 21st December at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre (22-664028) at 20:30.

Then the ballet will perform on the 22nd and 23rd December at the Limassol Patticheion Municipal Theatre (25-343341) at 20:30.
