Vladimir Ashkenazy

Vladimir Ashkenazy was born in 1937 Gorkiy, Russia. He had previously

won competitions before the Soviet authorities asked him to enter the

1962 Tchaikovsky competition. He studied music of the west including

Mozart and Chopin. He later took to conducting.
